- ALT - Assistant Language Teacher (that'll be my job)
- eikaiwa - English conversation class in Japan
- hiragana - syllabary (alphabet) used to write words of Japanese origin
- inaka - countryside
- JET - Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme
- kanji - ideograms used in Japanese writing to represent ideas (instead of sounds)
- katakana - syllabary (alphabet) used to write words of non-Japanese origin
- romaji - roman alphabet used to represent Japanese words (usually for foreigners learning Japanese)
